Description of the Cowans Mullet - Fly:

The Cowans Mullet is a durable and effective pattern that imitates the translucent body of a small Mullet or baitfish. It is a versitile pattern that will work on most saltwater species and freshwater anglers have found it to be a great all around minnow imitation and one of the best Shad imitations.

Awsome fly
Rating: 5 of 5 [5 of 5]
Reviewed by: Don on 08/31/2011
Experience Level: Amatuer - Ownership: 1 - 4 Months
Pros: Mimics the Intercoastal glass minnow perfectly. I must have caught 20 Seatrout, several lady fish and a red in just a couple of hours. Strip the line in short 6-8" strips produced better hits than longer ones.
Cons: I added the smallest split shot approx. 10-12" in front of the fly. this give a up and down swimming motion when using a floating line. The tail shredded after two outings. (caught alot of fish)
Other Thoughts: I fish a 9 weight salt water rig on the intercoastal. This little fly has produced unbelievable results.
mullet
Rating: 3 of 5 [3 of 5]

Pros: realistic enough to fool fish if moved quickly thru busy water.
Cons: very heavy. too heavy for small trout fished for on a 5-weight rig.
Other Thoughts: this should probably used for trout larger than 18 inches or largemouth bass.
