Description of the H & L Variant - Fly:

The H & L Variant attractor fly is a classic pattern that continues to prove itself. The wing and tail are tied from buoyant calf hair. This is one of the most visible dry flies and makes it a top choice for fishing in faster water. The tapered body matches a variety of insects and makes the H&L Variant work in many different conditions.

Pros: this fly has excellent visibility and floats well - I like it for rough water, wind, or poor visibility conditions as a surface searching pattern. Once the fly is waterlogged, stripping it subsurface in still water has also produced some nice fish (BKT). a versatile fly and worth having a few in the box.
Cons: just one of many similar attractors....
