| The Pit River Company was founded by Brian MacDonald and Joe Nowak. Brian grew up fishing the streams of the Sierra Mountains, and Joe was raised fishing for Brook Trout on the streams on the North shore of Lake Superior. Joe moved to Northern California 20 years ago, and after swapping many fishing stories, a fishing companionship was born. They soon began exploring the trout streams of Northern California. The Pit River quickly became their “home stream”. Thirty and Forty catch and release days became the norm. As is normally the situation, Brian and Joe became intimately familiar with certain stretches of the Pit, and began collecting data and daily catch statistics in order to enhance their body of knowledge of the Pit. They realized that accurate data is vital to proper resource management and conservation.
The Pit River Company is dedicated to the greater responsibility to ensure that all fisheries will continue to benefit all for future generations. We believe that a record keeping system plays a significant role to the recovery, conservation, and maintenance of our trout populations and if conservation and recovery are to be successful, real data is needed.

It is a simple mechanical counter, designed and manufactured in the shape of a trout and displays world-class artwork by Joseph R. Tomelleri. The fish counter is offered in 4 different trout species: Rainbow, Brook, Brown, and Golden.
