Description of the R. L. Winston Boron IIIX Rod - Rods:

"AWESOME" is the word most commonly used to describe these rods. Our technical advisor Joan Wulff has stated, "they offer an amazing combination of speed, power and Winston smoothness." And we're prone to saying, "you really need to fish one of these." Utilizing higher modulus third generation boron/graphite composite, Boron IIIx rods offer cutting-edge angling performance. With the broadest casting range of any Winston series, these rods allow anglers to control line speeds for long casts into the wind or gentle presentations up close. They feature a stronger butt section for lifting more line off the water. They are powerful, yet lightweight with great feel and liveliness. They are, well, "awesome." The 5-piece trout models are the ultimate travel rods. All Boron IIIx rods come with our graphite tube.

3-WEIGHT
An extremely light, fast-action rod perfect for small creeks with the ability to cast comfortably at a range of distances even in light winds.

4-WEIGHT
Ideal rods when delicacy is needed for spring creeks and other technical waters, yet with reserve power capable of generating faster line speeds and handling windy situations and larger rivers. Broad casting range and an excellent all-around rod...exceptional versatility for a 4-weight.

5-WEIGHT
Perhaps the ideal, high-performance all-around rods with an extremely wide casting range. Light, powerful, smooth, fun to cast. Able to cast in close with small flies, and yet capable of generating significant line speeds to punch into strong winds or cover longer distances with larger flies without feeling stiff. This is what fishing can be like on larger rivers - sometimes you need a rod that can do everything. Like a top-of-the-line sports car: you can "feel" that the power is in your hands, in your control.

5-WEIGHT JWF
"Boron IIIx rods are an amazing combination of speed, power and Winston smoothness." Joan Wulff.

Our new 9-foot 5-weight Boron IIIx Joan Wulff Favorite comes with a beautiful Royal Wulff fly inscribed on the rod just above the handle.

Rod characteristics: An ideal, high-performance all-around rod with an extremely wide casting range. Light, powerful, smooth, fun to cast. Able to cast in close with small flies, and yet capable of generating significant line speeds to punch into strong winds or cover longer distances with larger flies without feeling stiff. A rod that can do everything: dries, nymphs, streamers. Like a top-of-the-line sports car: you can "feel" that the power is in your hands, in your control.

6-WEIGHT
Exceptionally light all-around rods with extraordinarily broad casting range of 25-100+ feet. On big rivers, for big fish, in stronger winds, these rods will provide you everything you need without being too stiff. Although it has incredible power, can generate very fast line speeds, they are designed to give you incredible versatility: Ideal for streamers, nymphs, big water, big winds, yet versatile enough for gentle dry fly presentations up close.

7-WEIGHT
Light, very powerful and a joy to cast. Ideal for big freshwater fish or for light saltwater situations. Perhaps the finest single-handed dry fly steelhead and salmon rods made today. Can handle floating and sinking lines. Available in three different lengths.

8-WEIGHT
This new 9-foot 8-weight Boron IIIx was designed to generate extremely fast line speeds to cast wind resistant flies in challenging conditions without giving up feel. This rod can load quickly when casting to skittish bonefish or redfish up close, or make very long casts on demand. The very high line speed allows you to "punch" casts directly into strong winds. Outstanding for both saltwater and freshwater.

8-WEIGHT JWF
Bonefish up close or long casts to steelhead. These incredible, quick-loading, powerful rods can do it. The "Joan Wulff Favorite" has a special grip for a more ergonomic fit.

10-WEIGHT
An extremely light, powerful, quick-loading rod - ideal for casting to cruising permit, small tarpon and hard-fighting saltwater species like bonita and false albacore.
