Smooth as silk

Pros: This is the second Evolution I've purchased. I got a small one several years ago and the largest one, on sale, this time. Excellent reel. Smooth as silk and very light but very solid.
Cons: So with all the praise, why only 4 stars? My only gripe is that the drag is not sealed and occasionally gets grit in there. A quick spin underwater usually clears this right up but I've come to appreciate sealed drags on the Lamsons and other reels. It truly is not a big deal but 5 stars is near perfect, right? This minor gripe did not prevent me from snapping up another one when they went on sale.
Other Thoughts: RiverBum is my first choice for fly gear. They have fair prices and great customer service. If I need something this is where I check first. I just wish they had more good sales like they did for this Evolution reel.

Pros: I own several Ross reels. The operation of the reels is flawless and the engineering excellent. The reels are very light well balanced and the drag wonderful. Drag adjustment is very precise
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Most current fly reels on the market do very well. Components make a big difference in longevity and reliability and Ross is exemplary
Great Reel - Ross Evolution

Experience Level: Amatuer - Ownership: 1+ Years
Pros: I've had the Ross Evolution Reel now for over a year. I recently purchased (from RiverBum) a second spool simply because I no longer wanted to use my other reel (Orvis Battenkill Bar Stock) Although it is great reel too - it does not compare to the Evolution. The feel, the sound, the look and simplicity of this real makes it a real joy to use. I plan to purchase a few more spools for additional weight lines. I've tried this reel on my 8'6" Echo 2 and a 9' hand made Hardy. Performed and balanced perfectly. Was a little heavy for my ultralight. But then again, it was not made for a rod like that. I have recommended this reel to many people. No one that I know of has been unhappy with this reel. I also recommend purchasing your reel from RiverBum. I received my order in excellent condition and it arrived on time - Very professional - Got a cool sticker for the truck too!
Cons: It looks so good I cringe when it touches the ground or a rock. However, now it has character! This does not mean it scratches easily.... just that I should treat my gear with a little more care.

Pros: The best looking , in copper, and best performance to weight ratio reel on the market. I have several of these reels in various sizes and have only praise.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: The copper looks great on bamboo and fiberglass rods.

Experience Level: Amatuer - Ownership: 4 - 12 Months
Pros: This large arbor reel has an incredibly smooth drag sytem that is virtually maintenance free. That was the main selling point for me. I've used it intensively over the last several months with streamers on 4x and nymphs on 6x, and the drag has delivered in both cases. In the copper finish it's quite an eye-catcher too! I highly recommend this reel.
Cons: It's not the most econimical reel out there, but if you consider your investing in a high-quality product that's made in the USA I think it's well worth the money.
