Description of the Sage 1000 Series Value Reels - Reels:

Incredible performance, unbelievable price. Our new 1600 and 1800 Series reels feature a light, all-aluminum construction, large-arbor, quick-release spool change and premium sealed graphite drag system. The innovative "floating tripod" drag provides the kind of smooth startup, consistency and power you'd expect from a reel costing three times as much. Go ahead, check the prices below-like we said, hard to believe.

1600 Series Light and powerful, these reels give you the confidence that comes with large-arbor design and high-end drag system.

1800 Series These Reels provide all the features of the 1600, plus a machined, ergonomic handle, tough, non-glare titanium finish and a padded neoprene case.

At Sage, every piece of angling equipment we make is designed, tested and hand built with one goal in mind: Maximum fishability. It's a term we came up with a few years back to describe the kind of performance that helps you cast better, fish more effectively and have more fun. In short, every Sage rod, reel and line is specifically designed to help you make the most of your precious time on the water.

Pros: A good solid reel. All of the effort in this reel went to a solid workable reel, little to nothing went to making it pretty. The drag adjust from no resistance to full stop, although I can't see much reason for adjusting to a full stop. The large arbor still holds a lot of backing and line. Finally, the spool is very easy to remove. Just hold the reel with your fingers and use your thumbs to push the spool off.
Cons: There is no visible or audiable reference on the drag. It is 540 degrees from no resistance to full stop with no way to tell what the current setting is. If it is very quiet you can hear a small click, but you need to be in a quiet room or a cat, not on the river. I am very careful about adjusting the drag setting on this reel. The reel body looks to me to be cast rather than machined. There are circular markings inside the reel I often see in castings.

Pros: Sage makes a great product and as a fairly new guy to fly fishing I find that their product is a great value too. It's really easy to change spools from floating to sinking line and the reel is just really comfortable to use.
Cons: The drag can be a little tempermental.
Other Thoughts: I use my reel/s on a FLi companion rod.
