Description of the Sage 4500 CF Series - Reels:

4500CF Series reels share the same frame structure as the 4500, but are even lighter and more durable, thanks to our amazing new carbon fiber spools. 4500CF reels also feature a distinctive finish, aluminum, o-ring handle and a significantly lower price.

Another great feature, 4500 and 4500CF spools are interchangeable and also fit the original, award winning 2500 Series reels.

Pros: The 4550 5/6 wt reel with my 6 wt sage launch is a perfect match. I bought the reel and already had the rod went and fished with it and landed a 7 lb trout in the hat creek. The reel has excellent performance and drag is perfect could not say nothing bad about it.
Cons: The reel is expensive, but worth the money....

Pros: I purchased the 4500CF spool and found it well suited for its task... Less expensive than the metal spare spools and, they fit the old 2500 series frames as well.
Cons: The light weight CF spool makes the balance of your rig slightly different... Still, it's very durable.
Sage 4560CF solved my big fish losses

Pros: Excellent reel very smooth accurate, and repeatable drag system. Accepts carbon fiber and aluminum spools. Spool change is tooless and quick. Shipping was fast and service was outstanding. I very much recommend this reel, it beats my Limited Edition White River Classic hands down really no comparison. The Sage 4560 reel is very light for its size. The reel also requires little backing. I am extremely happy with this reel and highly recommend it. This reel is significantly more reel for the money especially when compared to a Lamson or a Ross. This reel also looks a cool as it performs the aesthetics are perfect. Totally satisfied with River Bum and Sage.
Cons: The aluminum spools that fit this reel are a bit expensive. The Carbon fiber spools are affordable but I doubt their strength (in all fairness I have no empirical information to base my doubts on) Carbon fiber spools are just so light they feel/seem fragile.
Other Thoughts: I fish the San Juan River every winter from early December thru early March. Usually I make at least 6 - 8 trips from Los Alamos, New Mexico to the San Juan and stay the weekend to fish all day Saturday and Sunday. A few weeks before I purchased the gear I am writing this review about a very large Rainbow broke me off a foot or two from my net. This seemed to happen frequently with my 4 weight rod and reel and always on the San Juan. I kept losing large fish at the net. The average fish in most of the other rivers in New Mexico are small in comparison to the the fish on the San Juan. I purchased this Sage 4560 Reel in 6-7 weight and a Cabelas L-Tech 906-4 rod to match it a few days after a trip that produced a few average San Juan rainbows and another lost large rainbow. My last trip to the San Juan this year was amazing. I landed two Trophy rainbows (the first was 25" and nearly 6 pounds it literally would not fit in my net, had to use my buddies net and it barely fit in his after 4 tries) I also landed 10 - 12 quality rainbows and 4 or 5 stockers. This reel also has very loud, positive drag clicks so when your fighting a large fish the sound really adds to the excitement on a long run...
