| Many of us love to get off the beaten track to find those precious untouched backcountry trout. Unfortunately, with the million time constraints that seem to be all around we often have just a few hours to fish high pressure tailwaters.
One simple tip for educated trout on heavily flogged rivers is to go with a size or two smaller fly. If you find that a size 16 pheasant tail nymph catches a few trout, try an 18 or 20. Remember, in tailwaters and spring creeks, the fish will likely feed very regularly on the many small food items available so go small and you'll have plenty of chances; don't rule out 20's 22's or even 24's. This will often help you catch fish that everybody else seems to miss. |
